Anyone know where I can get my Firebird painted? It has the original paint, and is definitely showing it's age. I don't want to spend a fortune though, this is just a daily driver, not a show car.

south st paul maaco if you want a cheap single stage, they can do it for what most shops would charge for just the paint... 4-500 bucks

Is the paint going to hold up and look decent?

For a month or two... it's maaco. xD

Maybe longer, depends on the maaco I think.

yeah, not like a 10k paint job but they buy paint in such bulk its crazy, me and my buddie painted my bird in my garage and the paint itself cost more then they woulda charged, if it were a 68 firebird i wouldnt say maaco but iv delt with ALOT of cars painted there and there not that bad, worst thing i see is overspray on moldings once in a while,

maaco is just fine for a thirdgen, my work prolly gets 100 cars painted there a year for the last 6 or 7 years, yet to have any abnormal complaints.

Just gotta go and check out the people that are going to be painting it. I went to the Maaco in BV about a year ago and as soon as I saw their "technicians" I changed my mind. No offense to them, just didn't want them on my car, but they might have new labor now, I haven't been back.

you get what you pay for, whoever repainted my car looks like they sanded it with 80 grit sand paper in some spots and painted over the clear coat...

ya get what you pay for, theguys who paint at most maacos only paint so they know what there doing, if you dont want a scruffy guy or a mexican touching your car dont bring it there, but that comes with cheap labor, go to maaco in s st paul, and try to find a parking spot cuz you wont. there so packed right there its not even funny and its cuz for the money they do the best work, and keep in mind im talking about paint not body work, any money can paint if taught how to, after all i painted my bird and it turned out fantastic and it was my first car i painted, it takes time and material isnt cheap, maaco gets there product dirt fing cheap and has cheap labor, ill back south st paul maaco all the way for what they are.

Up to $1,000. It does need a little body work, one fender is a little dented, and the passenger side door has a dent in it too. I'd probably be easier to just put a different fender on, and the passenger door could probably be pounded out. But otherwise, the rest of the car is in good shape.

if you need paint and the lil bit of body work, idk who else could do it for under 1k, i hate to say it but you might not have many options in that range, and i agree i replaced a fender on my 91 it took about an hour and was well worth it, third gen parts are cheap so ya mind as well do it, you could easly replace the door too if you wanted to save money

I know a guy from another forum that could do it pretty cheap, he quoted me 650 on all the work on my front end, which is a shit ton of rust removal. Pictures are in my nyub thread. I can connect you two, but I obviously haven't had mine painted yet so I don't know the quality of his work, but plenty of people on the forum vouch for him and he was the first name that came up when I asked for recommendations.

Edit: but that wasn't including supplies.

Sure, I'd rather support someone like that than a big franchise business. Seems like the "small" guys do it right, and the big businesses do it fast.
